Mercer's past credits include a number of plays and musicals in Arkansas, off - Broadway in New York, and internationally in Canterbury, England. Mercer fuses arts and activism by using theatre and textiles to tell social justice narratives, through merchandising and storytelling, with an emphasis of uplifting voices of color. A dedicated public servant, a woman of many creative talents, and daughter of the legendary late civil rights lawyer, Attorney Christopher C. Mercer, Jr., she honors the legacy of her father by using theatre arts as a tool for empowerment, education, and social justice.

Written by Clinton School student Crystal C. Mercer, “A Love Story Waiting to Happen” is a rhythmic, raw, and open movement of poetry that explores love, grief, mourning, freedom, social justice, sex, and courtships. The stunning black and white photography of Joshua Asante, lead singer of noted bands Amasa Hines and Velvet Kente, is the perfect pairing to Mercer’s pain and progress in her poetry. Asante’s images complement the stories that are being told, and they capture the essence of Mercer’s confidence, vulnerability, femininity, boldness, and strength.

Blending an intoxicating concoction of poetry and imagery, Mercer engages her intuitive intellect, molding herself to express stories that are both universal in nature and indicative of her journey in the full spectrum of love… Ebb. Flow. Disruption. Chaos. Calm. Good. Bad. Ugly. Lovely.
