Mike Poore was selected as the Superintendent of Little Rock School District in June 2016, making the transition from Bentonville, where he served as superintendent for five years.
Poore moved to Arkansas in June 2011 to become superintendent of Bentonville Public Schools. A veteran educator with more than 32 years of experience as a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, and executive director, Poore has dedicated his life’s work to students. Including his tenure in Bentonville, Poore has served in top administrative roles over the past 13 years, as deputy superintendent in Colorado Springs, Colorado and as superintendent of Sheridan School District in Denver, Colorado.
Under his leadership in Bentonville, Bentonville Public Schools were recognized for excellence in education. Niche.com ranked Bentonville as the top school district in the state. In addition, Bentonville schools received over $1.2 million in reward money from the Arkansas School Recognition Program in 2015-16.
Poore is a state leader in creating post-secondary career options for students, having spearheaded collaborative initiatives to improve student quality of life and career and technical opportunities. He brought together a group to develop the Bright Futures program which leverages the talent and treasure of the community in supporting at-risk students and their families. At Bentonville, he championed the development of the district’s Ignite Professional Studies program and built a coalition of Benton County superintendents, legislators, and business people to advance career and technical education.
He is a strong advocate for community service, an active member of the Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow. Poore believes in developing future leaders and teachers, and as such, has served on the Arkansas Professional State License Standards Board,
and mentored new superintendents. As a result of his work on behalf of and support for community development, he was appointed to the Arkansas Economic Board, and served as President in 2014-15.
Poore received his Bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University in 1984, and earned his Master’s from the University of Colorado in 1995.
He and his wife, Marianne, married in 2012. They have a blended family with five children: Patrick, Jasmine, Olivia, Christopher, and Parker. Mrs. Poore is a native of Little Rock; and both are looking forward to getting to know the students, parents, LRSD staff and business leaders as they make Little Rock their home.
