President Levy Mwanawasa

Levy Mwanawasa is the former president of Zambia. Mwanawasa won praise abroad for tackling corruption and turning the copper-rich southern African country into one of the continent's biggest success stories. He became vice-president in 1991 and won the presidency in 2001 and closely won re-election in 2006. He died in a French hospital on August 19, 2008 after suffering a stroke in June. He was 59 years old.
