Born in 1944, Ronen Sen was India's ambassador to the United States of America from 2004 until March 2009. In 1966, Mr. Sen joined the Indian Foreign Service, and from 1968 to 1984, he served in a variety of Indian posts in Moscow, San Francisco, and Dhaka. From 1984 to 1985, he was the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. From 1986 to 1991, Mr. Sen was the Joint Secretary to the Prime Minister of India; a position in which he was responsible for Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Science and Technology. He served as India's ambassador to Mexico from 1991 to 1992, India's ambassador to Russia from 1992 to 1998, and India's ambassador to Germany from 1998 to 2002. Mr. Sen has also participated in summit meetings in the United Nations, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the G-15.
