Desmond Brown

Desmond Brown joined the Half in Ten campaign in January 2011 as a consultant to lead the development and release of an annual report tracking progress towards cutting poverty in half in 10 years. He came to the Half in Ten campaign after serving as senior director for government affairs at Catholic Charities USA for five years. In that position he directed the development of Catholic Charities USA’s annual policy reports, provided strategic advice to their Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America, and directed legislative strategy in the areas of health care, housing, welfare, and other human needs programs.

Prior to joining Catholic Charities USA, Brown served at the American Public Human Services Association and Children’s Defense Fund, working to provide greater access to workforce development, health care, and other human services.

He holds a master’s from Georgetown University Public Policy Institute.

Desmond Brown discusses the Half in Ten campaign, a joint project of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, the Coalition on Human Needs and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, tracking progress towards cutting poverty in half in 10 years. Brown discusses the first annual Half in Ten campaign report, which contains a number of statistical indicators and data that describes where the nation stands on creating jobs, promoting economic security and strengthening families.
